Cookery Club - Weeks 1, 2 and 3:
We are really enjoying being part of cookery club on a Tuesday after school. In our first week we learnt all about hygeine and how to keep safe whilst cooking and discussed different healthy foods in reference to being a 'Healthy School'. We learnt how to use a sharp knife safely; how to pass it to a friend and how to cut safely with it. With this skill we were able to make 'Sam's Sandwich'. Sam's Sandwich is different to a normal sandwich and we had to choose different fillings for each layer, being careful to cut and butter each different half of bread.
The second week we enjoyed making raisin and seed flapjack. We followed a recipe and used scales to weigh our different ingredients. We learnt about wet and dry ingredients and then combined them to make a mixture. We then placed this mixture onto a baking tray before cooking them.
At the third week of cooking club we went back to using our knife skills to cook a savoury dish of vegetable pasta. We looked at the differences between uncooked and cooked pasta and discussed what changes happen as it cooks. We chopped all of our vegetables using our sharp knife and chopping board and added these to a sauce. Once the sauce and pasta were cooked we combined them to make one big dish of vegetable pasta.
